Engineer injured in fight with Metro staff, two suspended
An engineer was injured in a fight with Delhi Metro staff at a station here following an altercation over money, prompting DMRC to suspend two of its employees.
New Delhi: An engineer was injured in a
fight with Delhi Metro staff at a station here following an
altercation over money, prompting DMRC to suspend two of its
S K Jain, a resident of Vivek Vihar in east Delhi,
entered into an altercation with the Customer Care staff at
the Karkardooma Metro station over the issue of Smart Card
A senior police official said he was injured in the
incident and has been admitted to a hospital.
However, DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal claimed that "the
passenger used abusive language and tried to put his hands
into the cash drawer when he was told by the staff that they
did not have change to give him".
Dayal said the attempt to take money from the cash
drawer and "hurling of abuses by the passenger further
aggravated the situation which led to physical confrontation
between the passenger and Customer Care staff."
The police official said no case has been registered
and a medical report is awaited.
Dayal said DMRC had immediately suspended the Customer
Care staff after the incident. The station controller on duty
at that time was also suspended as he too was involved in the
DMRC has also ordered "a proper inquiry as it views
any such incident very seriously and will take appropriate
action," he said.
