New Delhi: Many people, including women,
came calling on `Tantrik Baba Shahzad` seeking his
intervention to get over their problems in life and gave
whatever `offerings` he asked for.

But, the `fake` baba and his men would disappear after
they get the `offerings` and would untraceable for many people
in Delhi and neighbouring states.

29-year-old `Tantrik Baba Shahzad` and two of his aides
have been arrested yesterday by the Delhi Police acting on a
complaint filed by a woman allegeing that she was cheated by
the `fake` tantrik of Rs 51,000 in cash and five 50 gm gold
coins. The woman approached them after seeing advertisements
given by the gang in newspapers.

Police have also recovered an Indian Eagle owl -- a
protected species under Schedule IV of Wildlife Protection
Act -- a golden ring and other articles used in `Tantra`.

With the arrest of Shahzad, Akbar and Ikram, police
claimed to have busted a notorious gang and solved over 500
cases of cheating.

The victim approached the `fake` tantrik to get over her
problems and he asked her to come and meet him.

"The Baba showed the victim an owl and told her that the
owl will tell her about her problem as well as the solution.
After some time the tantrik intimidated her by saying that her
husband is under the influence of a `kala jin` (bad spirit)
and if not treated this may result in his death too," O P
Mishra, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), said.

Shahzad demanded Rs 2,100 for `pooja`, Rs 51,000 (51
currency notes of Rs 1000 each) and five gold coins along with
some common herbs to be kept in a pot for `pooja`. He also
promised her that he would give back the offerings once the
`pooja` is over.

But, after the ritual, Shahzad and his associates stopped
attending to her calls and also refused to give back the
offerings.

After conducting raids at several places, Shahzad was
arrested from Apsara border and his associates Ikram and Akbar
were picked up from their office situated in Kalkaji.

Mishra said during interrogation he disclosed that he had
been carrying out such business with his other family members.

"They have offices in Delhi and other states. They
advertise on TV channels for tantrik solution for every type
of personal and family problems. He disclosed that 15 years
back his uncle Shamim went to Mumbai and started tantrik
business there," he said.
