Fate of automated parking lot for HC uncertain

The fate of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation`s much-touted fully automated multi-level parking lot for Delhi High Court seems uncertain with NDMC notifying a 15th century heritage monument at the site.

New Delhi: The fate of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation`s much-touted fully automated multi-level parking lot for Delhi High Court seems uncertain with NDMC notifying a 15th century heritage monument at the site.

The State Level Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC), which had a few months back given in-principle approval to the project, reconsidered its decision recently after the NDMC notified the unnamed tomb in its list of 141 heritage monuments and structures.
"The proposal was reconsidered by the Committee in a recent meeting when members expressed their dissatisfaction with the information provided by the project proponent on the status of the unprotected monument located inside the site," a SEAC member told media.

The tomb is an architectural value Grade I heritage structure that features in the list of 141 heritage monuments and structures in the NDMC area notified recently.

As per notification, no alterations or demolition can be made to any of the structures in the list without referring the proposal to the Heritage Conservation Committee (HCC).

The Rs 125 crore parking lot whose foundation stone was laid by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit two years ago proposed to have six levels to accommodate over 1,500 cars.
The project which will be partly funded by Delhi Government awaits clearance from the Delhi Urban Arts Committee as well.

Now the Committee has sought clarification on the matter from the Archaeological Survey of India, State ASI, HCC and NDMC before it could be given go-ahead.

The SEAC has also sought details regarding disaster management and pollution load during operation as per the model and action plan for Corporate Social Responsibility with budget.

"The environment clearance for the project has been deferred till the submission of the requisite information and its subsequent examination by the Committee," the member said.
