As per reports the cause of the fire was due to short-circuit in the electrical wires inside the building.

Shortly later, Union minister for Information and Broadcasting and environment Prakash Javadekar wrote on bicroblogging website twitter - "My alert staff informed me about the fire in I&B ministry. Nobody is injured and all are safe. Presently I am in Pune."

Javadekar also said that his personal staff assisted the fire brigades.

"Our secretary, officers and my personal staff are on the spot and i have asked them to cooperate with the fire brigade officials," he said in a second tweet.

He further tweeted: "It seems committee room and some staff rooms have been damaged. We will take stock of the damage once the fire is doused fully."
