Flight operations normal at IGI

After remaining disrupted for the past two days due to dense fog, air operations at the IGI airport were normal on Thursday.

New Delhi: After remaining disrupted for
the past two days due to dense fog, air operations at the IGI
airport were normal on Thursady.

"Though there was shallow fog, the runway visibility
was around 1,000 metres which was good enough for normal
flight operations," an airport official said, adding all
domestic and international flights were operating as per
schedule.

Heavy fog has played havoc with flight operations this
season.

"Breaking the record of January 2003 when IGI airport
witnessed around 168 hours of dense fog, this year it has
witnessed a total of 172 hours of dense fog," R K Jenamani,
Director in charge of Airport Met Department, said.

"If this condition prevails, it could easily break the
record of December 1998, when the airport witnessed 179 hours
of dense fog in one month during a season," he said.

In the past ten days, about 190 flights have been
cancelled while around 1,200 have been delayed.
