Food security scheme: Delhi govt misleading public, says BJP

Delhi BJP on Saturday termed as misleading the announcement of implementation of food security scheme by the city government.

New Delhi: Delhi BJP on Saturday termed as misleading the announcement of implementation of food security scheme by the city government and said it will meet the same fate as other schemes like Rajiv Ratna Awas yojna, Annashri yojna and Antyodaya yojna.

"Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit wants to implement the food security scheme from August 20 but the reality is no ration cards have been issued for the last 15 years in Delhi," the city BJP president Vijay Goel told a gathering of Delhi BJP Pradesh Mahila Morcha members who were protesting the increasing prices of essential commodities here.

He said Public Distribution System (PDS) has totally collapsed and even Justice Wadhwa Committee has found that PDS in Delhi was one of the most corrupt and inefficient system.

"Annashri and Antyodaya Yojna started by the Delhi government have already failed. Now the government wants to hoodwink the people by talking about food security scheme. This scheme will meet the same fate as that of Rajiv Ratna Aawas Yojna," Goel said.

Meanwhile, BJP activists took out a protest march from the party headquarters at Ashoka Road towards UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi`s resident at 10, Janpath, but where stopped by police at Akbar Road.

Protesting the price rise, Mahila Morcha state president Sudha Sharma said, "The government has no control over price rise of essential commodities. The price rise has adversely affected the household. Now even vegetables are out of the reach of common man."

While attacking the government, BJP Mahila Morcha state general secretary Shikha Rai said the government has issued the ordinance when only 20 days were left for the commencement of Parliament sessions.

"It shows that the government wants to hoodwink people on this issue and its intention is not to provide food security."
