New Delhi: The Delhi police, early Monday, arrested four members of Aam Aadmi Party for putting up posters for an upcoming party rally here.

The AAP workers were arrested on the charge of defacing public property, a police officer said.

The activists, all aged between 20-30 years, were booked under various Sections of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007.

The AAP claimed that pasting posters was not a "crime".
Other political parties also paste posters but why do police not take action against them, an AAP leader said a news agency.

Meanwhile, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that the arrest of AAP workers indicated BJP’s nervousness.

Former minister Somnath Bharti alleged that the arrests were made to avenge uncomfortable questions he had raised before police at a meeting.

Police said the AAP activists were found pasting the posters in south Delhi`s Malviya Nagar area early Monday for the rally scheduled on August 03 at Jantar Mantar.

"They were found pasting the posters at restricted places and were taken to the police station by the patrolling team and put under arrest," a police official said.
