Four eunuchs from each ward can get MCD pension

Giving a push to its unique pension scheme for eunuchs, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi announced reserving quotas for four persons from `third gender` in each municipal ward.

New Delhi: Giving a push to its unique
pension scheme for eunuchs, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Monday announced reserving quotas for four persons from `third
gender` in each municipal ward.

The MCD had in November issued a notification including
eunuchs in its social welfare pension scheme, making them
eligible for a Rs-1,000 pension per month.
The pension scheme of the civic agency benefits different
sections of the society including the elderly, widows and
physically challenged. Like others, eunuchs too will have to
get a recommendation from the area councillor for securing the
pension but there were complaints that there were no clear-cut
guidelines on how to use this discretionary quota for them.

Leader of MCD House Subhash Arya, while finalising the
civic body`s 2011-12 budget, said quotas of all councillors
will increase by four, which have been allotted after cutting
the discretionary quota for Mayor or Deputy Mayor, Standing
Committee Chairman and Deputy Chairman and Leader of House.
These four additional quotas will be used for eunuchs,
Arya said.

The eunuchs will have to submit a medical certificate
from any government hospital as proof of being an eunuch. An
affidavit to the effect that the eunuch is not married and the
birth certificate or any other document showing the age of the
applicant not below 18 years will have to be given.

Delhi has around three lakh eunuchs.
