Four held for gangrape

A police officer said that all the accused -- Subhash, Raghubir, Krishna and Iswar Singh -- were arrested Monday morning from the Najafgarh-Uttam Nagar raod in southwest Delhi.

New Delhi: Four people, all in their 20s, were arrested for raping a 22-year-old married woman here, police said on Monday.

A police officer said that all the accused -- Subhash, Raghubir, Krishna and Iswar Singh -- were arrested Monday morning from the Najafgarh-Uttam Nagar raod in southwest Delhi.

"The victim told us that she is a resident of Subhash Nagar at Uttam Nagar and went to one of her friend`s place at Bajrang Enclave in Najafgarh area Sunday evening," said a senior police officer.

The officer said that at around 11 pm, she was waiting for an auto along with some late night passengers at Bajrang Enclave when the four accused, who were in a Maruti car, stopped near her. "They approached her and offerred her a lift but she declined. They convinced her and when she stepped in, she discovered that they were all drunk," said the officer.

He added that after travelling for an about one km, they moved towards dark lanes where two of them took turns and raped her. She was beaten and threatened with dire consequences. At around 1.15 am, a police team saw the car and found something fishy when they saw the injured face of a girl in the car.

"They were stopped and when questioned, the girl narrated the whole incident. She was then was taken to hospital, where a medical examination confirmed rape. All the four men were detained," said the officer.
