New Delhi: Work on a number of pending road
improvement projects in various parts of Delhi has got stalled
due to shortage of funds, the MCD said on Monday.
Chairman of MCD Works Committee Jagdish Mamgain blamed
the Congress-ruled Delhi government for the lack of funds and
said due to its attitude, work on several community hall and
school buildings has also got stuck.
"At a meeting of the Works Committee held today, a number
of councillors raised the issue of shortage of funds. Delhi
government was to provide us Rs 1000 crore under various heads
for construction of school and community halls and improving
roads, but we have got Rs 500 crore only so far," he said.
Taking on the Delhi government, Mamgain accused it of
delaying the instalments of the grant unnecessarily. "They
finally give us the money at the fag end of the financial
year, when there is no time left for taking up any work," the
ruling BJP councillor said.
He said some Congress councillors also raised the issue
of funds at the meeting and that he has asked them to impress
upon the government ruled by their party to release funds in
time so that pending projects could be completed.
