Geetika suicide case: HC judge recuses from hearing bail plea of accused

Delhi High Court judge recused herself from hearing bail plea Aruna Chadha, an aide of former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda accused of abetting the suicide of a former airhostess Geetika Sharma.

New Delhi: A Delhi High Court judge on Monday recused herself from hearing the bail plea Aruna Chadha, an aide of former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda accused of abetting the suicide of a former airhostess Geetika Sharma.

Justice Mukta Gupta recused from hearing Chadha`s regular bail plea and sent the matter to the Chief Justice to be listed before another bench.

The matter will come up for hearing before another bench on January 10.

Aruna has been seeking bail on the ground that she is a single mother of a nine-year old girl who needs to ne looked after.

Aruna and Kanda are facing trial for allegedly abetting the suicide of 23-year-old Geetika Sharma who was earlier employed in Kanda`s MDLR airlines.
Aruna was arrested in the case on August 8, 2012 while Kanda had surrendered on August 18, 2012.

Both the accused have also been charged with forgery for cheating and harming the reputation of the victim.

Geetika was found dead on August 5, 2012 at her Ashok Vihar residence in North West Delhi. In her suicide note, she had said she was ending her life due to "harassment" by Kanda and Chadha.

The police had in its charge sheet said Kanda was obsessed with the victim and was putting pressure on her to come back to his company.
