Geetika suicide case: Move to make Kanda`s aide approver nixed

A Delhi court on Thursday dropped the proceedings to make Chanshivroop, an employee of ex-Haryana minister Gopal Kanda and co-accused in the Geetika suicide case, an approver.

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday dropped the proceedings to make Chanshivroop, an employee of ex-Haryana minister Gopal Kanda and co-accused in the Geetika suicide case, an approver.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate D K Jangala dropped the proceedings, begun earlier on Chanshivroop`s plea, after he repeatedly failed to appear before the court.

"Proceedings of approver initiated on the application moved by the applicant/ accused Chanshivroop Singh, are dropped. The investigating officer is directed to proceed in the matter as per the provisions of law," the court said.

Chanshivroop, had filed an application before the court expressing his willingness to turn approver in the case and was out on bail.

An assistant manager in Kanda`s MDLR, he had allegedly gone to Dubai where Geetika was working with Emirates Airlines and told its officials that she had secured a job with MDLR on the basis of fake and forged documents.

The police said he had also sent fake e-mails to Geetika informing her about purported extradition proceedings against her in Dubai to pressurise her to join back MDLR.

On December 5, the ACMM had tendered "conditional pardon" to Chanshivroop "on the condition that he shall make a full and true disclosure of whole of the circumstances within his knowledge related to the offence and relating to all the accused persons regarding commission of the offence."

The matter was kept pending regarding the acceptance of tender of pardon by him but he did not attend the court proceedings thereafter and the police informed the judge that he has fled to the USA.

The ACMM today noted that despite service of court notice, Chanshivroop had failed to appear before him.

"The perusal of the material on record reveals that the tender of pardon is not accepted by the applicant/ accused Chanshivroop Singh. The applicant/accused has failed to appear in the court to get his statement recorded as a witness. He is not appearing even despite court notice. Therefore, no useful purpose will be served by keeping these proceedings pending," the court noted.

The police had, at the time of filing of the charge sheet against Kanda and co-accused Aruna Chaddah, had told the court that it would file a supplementary charge sheet against Chanshivroop as he was being interrogated.

Meanwhile, Kanda`s wife had in an application alleged that the police had entered their house forcibly.

The police, however, denied the allegations and told the court that they had to serve a notice on Govind Kanda, Gopal Kanda`s brother, to join investigation but the family refused to accept it and the same was affixed on the gate of the house.
