New Delhi: Facing criticism for the recent
bus fare hike, Delhi Government today made some adjustments in
the fare structure for short distance commuters and announced
giving subsidised monthly passes to below poverty line
passengers.

"We have decided to extend journey under first slab from
3 km to 4 km for all passengers in general non-AC busses. The
ticket for the first slab will remain Rs 5," Chief Minister
Sheila Dikshit said after a Cabinet meeting.

The Chief Minister said the Cabinet has decided to give
subsidised monthly passes to BPL passengers for travel in
general non-AC buses.

"For BPL passengers, the monthly DTC pass for general
non-AC buses will cost Rs 500 instead of Rs 800," she said,
adding Rs 10 will be charged for journeys between 4 to 10 KM.

Dikshit said the decision will encourage BPL families to
opt for monthly passes.

Last month, the government had increased the minimum fare
of Rs three (up to three km) to Rs five, while the Rs seven
and Rs 10 tickets had been increased to Rs 10 (up to 10 km)
and Rs 15 (above 10 km) respectively in non-AC buses.

The government`s decision to charge Rs 5 for travel up to
three kms had invited criticism from all quarters, including
from the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee.
