New Delhi: Taking serious note of a trial court order, granting bail to a woman who had been denied the relief by it for allegedly duping thousands of investors of crores of rupees, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday summoned the lower court records.
Justice M L Mehta also directed accused Reena Gambhir to be personally present before it on March 23.
The high court gave the order after coming to know of the lower court`s order that granted the interim bail to accused Reena earlier this month despite denial of anticipatory bail by it to her, her husband Sanjay and son Karan Gambhir in December last year.
The high court was apprised of the lower court`s order by Public Prosecutor Fizani Hussain during hearing of Reena`s husband Sanjay`s plea for regular bail.
The cheating case against the developers` family had been lodged by the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police for allegedly duping thousands of investors to the tune of crores of rupees in the name of D D Township, launched in 2005.
According to the prosecution, the accused duped investors who had booked land with them in Faridabad, Zirakpur, Mohali and Sonepat.
The accused had started receiving booking amount for their various housing projects from the public during 2005-06 even though the Haryana government had cleared the land for one of their projects last year only.
Similarly, their Zirakpur project was never approved by the government but still the accused went ahead and collected money from the investors for the project, as per the prosecution.
