New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has upheld
the acquittal of a Jammu and Kashmir native of the charge of
being a terror outfit Al-Badr module on the ground of paucity
of evidence against him.
A bench of justices S Ravindra Bhat and G P Mittal upheld
Uabid`s acquittal by the trial court, dismissing a Delhi
police appeal against the trial court ruling which had let off
the Srinagar resident last year in February.
While acquitting Ubaid, the trial court had last year
sentenced another accused Amin Khan to ten years in jail for
having links with United Arab Emirates-based module of
Al-Badr, Sajjad Sheikh.
The Special Cell sleuths of Delhi police had arrested
Khan on June 15, 2005, from Indira Gandhi International
Airport where he had gone to take delivery of a consignment
sent from UAE.
He was arrested as the Custom authorities had confiscated
the consignment after detecting some contraband in it. The
consignment had 40 wireless handsets, 60 antennas, one solar
charger and six headphones.
