New Delhi: As a part of Pongal celebrations, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa`s `Amma canteen` has set-up food stalls in the national capital at Tamil Nadu Bhavan and are serving `idli` just for one-rupee each.

After the stalls being inaugurated today a huge number of people gathered here and were seen pretty impressed with the quality and the quantity of food being served to them.

`Amma canteens` serves breakfast, lunch and dinner at subsidised rates in Chennai whereas the `Amma Mineral Water` provides mineral water for Rs ten a litre to the poor and middle class people.

Both the welfare-schemes were launched by the Tamil Nadu government for helping the poor.
However, according to an english news channel, the offer at the Tamil Nadu Bhavan here will last just for three days, till January 14.

Other food items such as lemon rice, `sambhar` etc are available here just for Rs 5/- per plate.

In a series of pro-poor measures taken by the AIADMK Government to provide relief to the people reeling under the spiralling price rise, the food available at such low cost at the Tamil Nadu Bhavan could surely be taken as a gift from Jayalalithaa, who is fondly called by her party cadre as `Amma`.
Since such schemes are people friendly, they will surely increase the fans of `Amma` ahead of the General Elections.

However, Jayalalithaa has always defended her pro-poor programmes, saying that her government had to take such initiatives as the prices kept shooting up because of the "wrong economic policies" of the Centre.
