New Delhi: As Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Najeeb Ahmed continues to remain missing, the case has been handed over to the Crime Branch of Delhi Police.
Najeeb Ahmed went missing on the intervening night of October 14-15 after being allegedly beaten by a 20-strong mob of students who had gone campaigning to his door for hostel elections.
A Delhi police team recently visited Darbhanga in Bihar in search of the JNU student, but in vain.
The JNU Students Union (JNUSU) has called upon major student organisations across the country to hold campus protests on November 14-15 and to intensify the fight for Najeeb Ahmed.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured Fatima Nafees that the police are doing everything possible to locate her missing son.
A Delhi is expected to visit Badaun to speak to a doctor, who was treating Najeeb for depression and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), even as his family members claimed that he was suffering from insomnia only and no other mental disorder.
A psychiatrist from VIMHANS, who had been consulted by Najeeb and his mother twice in August and September was questioned by the SIT on October 23 to know about Najeeb's mental condition.\
Najeeb's sister Sadaf also rubbished allegations that he was mentally unstable.
"He had cracked university exams, he is a studious child. Do you think a person studying at such a prestigious institution can be mentally unstable? I request (all)...please don't defame him. He had sleeping problems that children who are studying often have due to pressure. He had no other problem," she told the media persons.
