New Delhi: The high-level probe panel of JNU inquiring into the controversial Afzal Guru event has found ABVP member Saurabh Sharma who had lodged complaint against the event, "guilty" of blocking traffic on the day of the programme.
Sharma, Joint Secretary of JNU Students Union and the lone ABVP member in the students body, had objected to holding of the February 9 event following which the varsity had withdrawn permission of the programme.
The organisers had gone ahead with the event against hanging of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru during which anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.
A high-level committee set up by the university to probe the incident has issued show-cause notices to 21 students who have been found "guilty" of violating university rules and discipline norms.
Sharma being one of them has been asked to explain why a disciplinary action should not be taken against him for blocking the traffic.
"The inquiry committee has found you guilty of blockage or forceful prevention of any normal movement of traffic, violation of security safety rules notified by the university," the notice sent to Sharma read.
Calling the notice a "weird" one, JNU's ABVP Unit president Alok Singh said, "we tried to block the traffic so ID cards of those travelling in buses could be checked as there were outsiders in that event. We will respond to the notice accordingly".
