New Delhi: Activist Arvind Kejriwal and his associates on Sunday staged protests across the capital by burning electricity bills and visiting the house of a person who died of heart attack after discom officials raided his house suspecting power theft.

A day after launching his 'bijli-paani satyagraha', Kejriwal started today's protest by visiting the house of 65-year-old Kailash Chand, who died of a heart attack following the raid at his house in Najafgarh.

Kejriwal said the household had a electricity bill of very low amount due to which officials suspected Chand of committing power theft.

"Even though he had paid his bill, the officials entered his place through back door and cut off his power supply," Kejriwal alleged.

Officials, however, claimed the discom was undertaking routine mass-inspections in the area to detect power-theft and police was accompanying them.

The officials alleged that the electricity meter was found by-passed and a power theft of around 5 KW was detected at the premises of Chand. They claimed they have photographs and video recording of the way the meter was by-passed.

Chand's wife Bimla alleged that four persons entered their house, had an argument and manhandled her husband. She claimed that those who came to the house said the family was stealing power and that was why the bill was only Rs 550.

Later, Kejriwal and others held protests 114 municipal wards spread in in 62 constituencies in Delhi and burnt electricity bills to protest against hike in power tariff.

Besides Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Gopal Rai and Kumar Vishwas joined people in several protest spots. Tomorrow, they will protest outside DERC office in south Delhi.

It is unfair for the media to criticize Arvind Kejriwal. He is doing a job that all of us should be doing. Our political leaders under the patronage of Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are relentlessly robbing the country, that is, you and me. We can do nothing to prevent the loot of our resources. If Arvind is highlighting the extreme state of corruption in our society we should express our gratitude to him. Look how helpless we are. Our leaders endlessly criticize Pakistan. But there the Court has been able to summon the prime minister in the witness box and pronounce action on him. He had to go. In our country, the supreme court cant summon even a peon, leave aside a minister. As those who are privileged to control the media please highly the helplessness of a billion and more people. If our sisters and daughters are raped, is there any man in the government to help us? This is because our leaders are utter rogues, criminals and terrorists. Thanks.

Are you sure there is under recovery. Every year tariffs are rising without justification. Why their balance shhets are not checked. When it started there was 50% theft and tariffs were based on this assumption. It has been reduced now and if not who is responsible.

Mr. Ramesh. You can live in this world in two ways (1) Become a slave and suffer all the atrocities imposed upon you by the rulers of our country (2) Come out and fight.

Now is the time to stand against corrupts. People of Delhi would have realized that the govt chosen by them is not for them, but against them. How can people earning Rs 5000/- to 6000/- ca afford for such huge monthly govt bills. Someone has rightly said that Shiela Dixit is CM of industrialists and rich people and not of aam Janta. Such ministers are not required in power. They are murdering the weak section of our society with corruption.

Hi, this IAC is a proxy of BJP to do favour for them. I dont think any harm in raising the electricity bills instead of having power blocked out, Delhities are paying 1 or 2% more than other states to run 24X7 power.
