New Delhi: India on Wednesday termed as
"unfortunate" the shooting of two elderly members of the Sikh
community in California and said it would pursue the matter
with the US administration.
"It is very, very unfortunate that this thing is
spreading and a particular community is being targeted,"
Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur told
reporters here.
She said the Indian embassy in Washington will be
pursuing the matter with the US authorities.
"Our embassy is very much on the job. We will be pursuing
the matter on a regular basis," Kaur said.
Surinder Singh (68) and Gurmej Atwal (78) were shot at in
Elk Grove, Sacramento, California on Friday in a suspected
incident of hate crime. While Singh died on the spot, Atwal
was reported to be in a critical condition.
