New Delhi: Adding to the political heat ahead of Delhi assembly election, Aam Aadmi Party founder member Shanti Bhushan, Thursday, praised Kiran Bedi and said that he would be happy if she becomes the chief minister.
Bhushan described BJP’s decision to anoint Bedi as CM candidate as a masterstroke.
“It is a master stroke by BJP to bring Kiran Bedi ji and declare her party's CM candidate. Kiran ji made a huge contribution to 'India Against Corruption', she would provide a very clean and efficient administration (as CM),” he said, adding, “BJP recognized force of Anna’s andolan and were forced to bring as CM candidate, a crusader (Kiran Bedi) against corruption.”
On AAP, Bhushan said that, in his view, everything was not right within the party.
“I think everything is not right in AAP, party is not being run on lines it was expected to run or what it was established for. Reorientation within AAP is very much needed, their stress must be on reforming political system, improving political standards,” he said.
Interestingly, he added, “AAP was born out of a crusade against corruption, so they should be happy if a member (Kiran Bedi) of same crusade becomes CM.”
Praising Bedi, the noted lawyer said that she is woman of integrity and had done exceptional work, first as a police officer and then as a crusader.
“I feel that if she becomes CM she will do very good work...I would have been happier if she became CM as AAP member but what is more important is that Delhi gets an honest CM,” he said.
On Anna Hazare, Bhusan said, “If she (Bedi) becomes CM, Anna should be very happy as one of his disciples has become CM.”
On Bedi’s statements praising the RSS, Bhushan said, “RSS has some good things but they have one bad aspect that they get ant-Islam at times...if she has praised good aspects of RSS then there is no wrong.”
Bhushan refused to choose between Bedi and Kejriwal but quipped, “Even if Kejriwal does not become CM and Kiran Bedi becomes CM then also its good.”
Bhushan is the patron of AAP and its biggest donor.
