New Delhi: Thousands thronged ISKCON temple here on Saturday to offer prayers on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami.

The prayers will be held throughout the night at ISKCON temple to celebrate the auspicious occasion.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today greeted the nation on the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami.

In another tweet, PM posted some pictures of Mahabodhi Temple.

Soon after arriving at Gaya airport, earlier, PM Modi went straight to the 1,500-year-old Mahabodhi temple, where he offered prayers.

Lord Krishna is said to have been born at midnight on the ashtami or the 8th day of the Krishnapaksha or dark fortnight in the Hindu month of Shravan (August-September). This auspicious day is called Janmashtami.
