New Delhi: The political slugfest between the Aam Aadmi Party government and Lt Governor Najeeb Jung is likely to be escalated in the wake of a letter of the LG claiming his office is the `real government of Delhi`.
While writing to the state government calling Swati Maliwal’s appointment as Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) chief `null and void`, Jung said that the constitutional definition of government in Delhi was ‘lieutenant governor'.
He wrote, “In respect of the National Capital Territory of Delhi the 'Government' means the `Lieutenant Governor of the NCT of Delhi appointed by the President under Article 239 and designated as such under Article 239 AA of the Constitution`.”
The letter is bound to draw the ire of the AAP government in Delhi.
This is latest in a host of issues over which Jung and the state government have locked horns.
Maliwal, an RTI activist and wife of AAP leader Naveen Jaihind, took charge as the chairperson of DCW on Monday.
The AAP accuses Jung of being a BJP agent.
Earlier, the two had confronted over the appointment of officers in the Anti-Corruption Branch and Jung's powers to appoint key officers.
