New Delhi: The Delhi State Legal Services
Authority today organised `Lok Adalat` in all the six district
courts here in which over 4,700 cases were disposed off and
compensation of over Rs 73 lakh awarded to aggrieved parties.
The Lok Adalat, organised on every second Saturday of the
month, were presided over by judges of district courts here
and 55 benches were constituted for disposal of the cases.
A total of 4,793 cases were disposed off out of which
bulk were under the Negotiable Instrument (NI) Act.
"55 benches were constituted which disposed of in total
4,793 cases, out of which, 4,474 cases relating to Section 138
NI Act, civil, electricity, traffic, criminal compoundable
offences, MCD and matters relating to recovery etc pending in
various courts and 51 cases pertaining to Motor Accident
Claims were disposed off...," a DLSA statement said.
It said that compensation of Rs 73.42 lakh was awarded
while six cases were disposed off at the pre-litigative stage.
Besides these, 313 criminal cases were also disposed of
by way of plea bargaining in the special sitting conducted by
the judges, the DLSA said.
