Lok Adalat settles 2508 cases

New Delhi: A total of 2,508 pending cases, including 60 pertaining to motor accidents, were disposed of on Saturday by the Lok Adalat which also awarded Rs 1.03 crore as compensation to road accident victims.

Over 3,042 cases pertaining to bounced cheques, civil, electricity, labour, criminal compoundable offences, recovery matters pending in various district courts of Delhi were listed at the Lok Adalat organised by the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DLSA).

Thirty one benches were set up across five district court complexes. These benches were presided over by the judges of the district courts, the DLSA said in a statement.

Eighty four criminal cases were also disposed of by way of plea bargaining in a special sitting conducted by the judges authorized by the High Court.

DLSA has been constituted under the State Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, and works in the field of Lok Adalat and Legal Aid.
