Lokayukta order against Chauhan: Dikshit meets Sonia

PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan is under scanner in connection with a tax evasion case.

New Delhi: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Wednesday met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and is understood to have briefed her on the order of the Delhi Lokayukta recommending removal of city PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan in connection with a tax evasion case.

Sources said Dikshit was called by Gandhi to discuss
the issue.

Delhi Lokayukta had last week recommended sacking of Chauhan from the Delhi Cabinet for trying to protect a leading resort in a tax evasion case, holding him guilty of
"misconduct" of "grave nature".
There is indication that Chauhan may be asked to
resign. In the order, Lokayukta Justice Manmohan Sarin
recommended to the President of India to "withdraw her
pleasure" for the Minister to continue in office as he
"misused" his official position.
Justice Sarin`s order came in a case pertaining to
Chauhan`s alleged involvement in influencing a team of tax
officials when they were carrying out a survey at the premises
of the resort in South Delhi in February last year.
