A 19-year-old girl who worked as a domestic help here allegedly committed suicide on Monday by jumping from the ninth floor of an apartment building.

Gurgaon: A 19-year-old girl who worked as a domestic help here allegedly committed suicide on Monday by jumping from the ninth floor of an apartment building.

Sultana leapt to her death from a flat`s balcony in the multi-storey Taarika Apartments in Sector 43, according to police.

The girl, who hailed from West Bengal`s Dakshin Dinajpur district, was working as a domestic help for Manjeet Singh, a businessman.

Police have registered a case against Manjeet Singh and his wife Afsana under Sections 306 (Abetment of suicide) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

Sushant Lok police station chief Gaurav Phogat said, "We have registered a criminal case against Manjeet and Afsana on the complaint of Sultana`s father Hasimuddin. He complained that the employers were harassing her."

Sultana`s uncle Makhtuja Ali told a news agency, "She was working there for more than three months. She had complained that she was forced to work until midnight and was not provided enough food."
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Maheshwar Dayal said, "A probe has been launched while the girl`s body has not been handed over to her parents as an autopsy was not conducted."
