New Delhi: A man has been arrested for allegedly abducting a businessman and demanding`a ransom of Rs one crore from his family, police said on Sunday.
Dinesh, who runs a factory of plastic coating wires at Friends Colony, was nabbed on Thursday for kidnapping Alok Jain (21) who supplied plastic pallets to factories including that of the accused.
Dinesh plotted the crime as he was in huge debt after his business suffered losses.
He was required to pay Rs 7.5 lakh to Jain for the raw material he had bought.
Unable to pay the money, he kidnapped Jain, police said.
Jain was rescued on Thursday from a second floor flat in Krishna Nagar in East Delhi where he was kept in captivity, said police.
On Thursday police received information that Jain has been abducted and a ransom amount of Rs one crore has been demanded. During investigation, it was revealed that kidnappers were using the mobile phone of abducted person for making ransom calls, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Viajy Kumar.
Police teams were formed to nab the culprits. Later, an information was received that a man has been kept as hostage, tied up in Krishna Nagar.
Police rushed to the spot and after breaking open the door of second storey flat rescued Jain, Kumar said.
During investigation, Dinesh allegedly told police that he had bought raw material worth Rs 20 lakh from Jain and later paid Rs 12.5 lakh by selling his factory`s machines.
Dinesh was debt ridden and he was being asked by other lenders also to repay their loans. On Thursday, at around 11 AM he took Jain to Krishna Nagar flat on pretext of getting a payment of Rs three lakh, police said.
After reaching the flat, Dinesh tied up Jain to a chair and gagged him.
He then demanded ransom of Rs one crore from father of the victim and finally negotiated the ransom amount to Rs 50 lakh.
"But the accused ran out of luck and the victim managed to fall on the floor and tap the floor which was heard by the neighbour who alerted the police," said Kumar.
