Man held at Delhi airport for smuggling gold worth Rs 24 lakh

 A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valuing about Rs 24 lakh by hiding it in slippers at Indira Gandhi International Airport here.



New Delhi: A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valuing about Rs 24 lakh by hiding it in slippers at Indira Gandhi International Airport here.

The passenger was intercepted by customs officials after his arrival here from Bangkok yesterday.

"On personal search, two cut pieces of gold bars weighing 990 gms and valuing Rs 24.68 lakh were recovered from slippers worn by the passenger," a press release issued today by the customs said.

The gold was seized and the passenger was arrested, it said.
