New Delhi: A man was killed and four others injured after an over-speeding truck, hired by NDMC to collect garbage, turned turtle near India Gate here this morning, police said.
The incident took place around 8 AM near Hyderabad House at C-Hexagon near India Gate, when the truck, hired by the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) for picking up garbage, hit an electric pole and drove over a nearby footpath before turning turtle, they said.
The injured were rushed to RML hospital where 36-year-old Rajendra was declared brought dead, while four others injured--Bobby (21), Arun (30), Pradeep (31) and Anand (28) are undergoing medical treatment.
"The truck was carrying five NDMC sweepers and a driver," a police official said.
The truck driver identified as Firoz has been arrested and a case of rash and negligent driving has been filed against him at Tilak Marg police station, Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) SBS Tyagi said.
