Man slips to death at Delhi railway station

In a tragic incident, a 40-year-year old man trying to board a train to Indore at New Delhi`s Nizamuddin Station on Wednesday night slipped to death after falling into the gap between the platform and the moving train.

New Delhi: In a tragic incident, a 40-year-year old man trying to board a train to Indore at New Delhi`s Nizamuddin Station on Wednesday night slipped to death after falling into the gap between the platform and the moving train.

According to police, the incident occurred around 9.30 pm when the victim, identified as Bhagwan, tried to board the speeding Rajdhani Express.

"The man suffered multiple injuries and was bleeding profusely. He was taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) trauma centre where he succumbed to injuries," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Railways and Crime BS Gurjar said.
The incident created panic among the bystanders, who immediately raised the alarm, and someone pulled the chain to halt its speed.

However, the help from the railway authorities came late and the victim could not be lifted from the tracks immediately.

It took the authorities nearly two hours to saw off the metal steps of the train and take the victim out.

Till then, the man had suffered multiple cuts, lost consciousness and was bleeding profusely.
Sensing incessant delay in arranging an ambulance, the victim was eventually rushed to the AIIMS in a police vehicle.

However, he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
