DDA’s 2014 project on disputed land to spell trouble for buyers?

New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is coming up with a new housing scheme on Friday. As part of DDA`s 2014 housing scheme, more than 25,000 flats will be offered, most of them being single-bedroom units known as LIG flats. These flats will be located in areas like Rohini, Dwarka and Narela. However, the buyers of these flats need to be cautious before investing their hard-earned money. It has come to light that some of these flats will be on a disputed land and may put buyers in a soup later on. As per inputs available with Zee Media, there is a dispute over a part of land in Rohini and the mater is presently sub-judice. DDA had won the case against villagers from Rohini who were not ready to give up their land, in the Delhi High Court. However, land owners then approached the Supreme Court and the matter is pending there. The DDA has sought to absolve itself of any responsibility in case the court verdict goes against it and this may cost buyers of flats, which are being built on this disputed land, heavily. In fact, work has not even started on some of these flats. There have been cases in the past as well wherein buyers have been left empty-handed even after paying money to buy flats from the DDA. A case in point is of a retired Army jawan who had even returned his medals to the President after DDA failed to give him possession of a flat allotted to him in the 1983 scheme. In another case, a lady named Maya, who lives in Rohini, was allotted a DDA flat in 2010 but still there is no arrangement of water and electricity there. The lady has been forced to make her own arrangements for the same.
