New Delhi: Congress on Wednesday dubbed as "anti-people" MCD's proposal for introducing new taxes as well as increasing a few other existing ones.

"These are anti-people measures. We will oppose it," MCD Leader of Opposition J K Sharma said.

His comments came shortly after MCD Commissioner K S Mehra today proposed an increase in property tax besides introduction of congestion charges at crowded places.

"The increase in presently levied taxes and the proposal to introduce new taxes by the MCD Commissioner will lead to additional financial burden on the citizens of Delhi.

"The proposed tax rates and increase in property tax rates will put an additional burden on the people. Congress vehemently criticises the proposal and is totally opposed to it," Sharma said.

Presenting the budget for 2012-13, Mehra proposed increase in parking charges, street parking charges and property charges besides introducing new charges like congestion charges and conservancy charges.
