New Delhi: In more trouble for the Aam Aadmi Party, its legislator Jarnail Singh's anticipatory bail application was rejected on Tuesday. The AAP leader is accused of assaulting a South Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) engineer.
Singh, the AAP MLA from Tilak Nagar, has been declared an absconder.
Delhi Police has stated that as Singh's bail application has been dismissed he can be arrested any time soon.
Confirming the development, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said the AAP MLA is absconding and hoped that Singh would surrender.
The victim, junior engineer Azhar Mustafa, had alleged that he had gone to Krishna Park area in the locality to demolish an illegal construction when the locals obstructed him from carrying out his duty.
Soon, the residents called Singh to the spot. Mustafa alleged that AAP leader Singh along with others prevented the MCD team from carrying out the demolition and bashed him up.
Mustafa claimed that the municipal corporation had all the necessary clearances to carry out the demolition but Singh tore up the papers when they were shown to him.
The engineer later filed an FIR against the MLA in Tilak Nagar police station.
However, Singh has rubbished the claims made by the engineer. He said that no notice was served to the owner of the property. The MLA has filed a counter complaint against the engineer, reports added.
The controversy comes at a time when another AAP MLA and state Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar is under fire over his alleged fake degrees.
The Kejriwal government, recently, also faced a lot of flak over the death of farmer Gajendra Singh during its rally in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
