New Delhi: Admitting that the MCD is not perfect as an organisation, new Delhi Mayor Rajni Abbi has said she will take all possible steps to ensure that it meets the expectations of the public.

"I know we as an organisation are not perfect and still there is lot of scope for improvement," Abbi, a DU law professor and a first-time councillor from Mukherjee Nagar ward, said in her message posted on the MCD's website.

The 49-year-old was elected as city Mayor on Wednesday.

She said understanding and goodwill between citizens and the civic body are essential for better delivery of civic services and that she wants to "ensure that communication and feedback channels remain open between us".

"I will take all possible steps to ensure that we meet the expectations of the public at large," the message reads.

Abbi has also appealed to people to observe "simple civic rules" like paying house tax in time, keeping parks, gardens and other public places clean, not urinating, littering or spitting in public places and not using polythene bags.

Soon after being elected, Abbi had said in her tenure, the grievance of the public and the MCD staff will be dealt with in a time-bound manner.

"The head of the concerned departments will be made personally responsible for their disposal. Every department will have to send a fortnightly report to the Mayor's office in respect of the grievances received and disposed of," she had said.
