New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Monday said it will regularise all its substitute sanitation workers "in due process of time".

Chairman of MCD Standing Committee Yogendra Chandolia said all substitute 'safai karamcharies' will first be made daily wagers and thereafter recruited as regular workers.

"It will be ensured that all substitute safai karamcharies are made regular in due process of time. Those substitute safai karamcharies, who are working since 1996, will be included in recruitment process for regular safai karamcharies as per requirement of posts," he said.

Chandolia said that some workers' unions are misguiding people by saying that the substitute sanitation staff working since 1996 will be taken on contract. "There is no such proposal," he said.

However, he stressed that the MCD will safeguard the interests of substitute safai karamcharies and it will be ensured that they are given due preference during the recruitment process.

The Chairman of the Standing Committee said while deploying safai karamcharies in unauthorised colonies and new localities, it will be ensured that substitute employees get work as daily wager on regular basis and be regularised later as per the rules.
