MCD terminates contracts of 14 teachers

Delhi`s civic body on Saturday terminated contracts of 14 teachers and placed several others on suspension after they were found absent without intimation during a random inspection of its schools.

In a bid to give out a strong message that dereliction
of duty and absenteeism will not be tolerated, the Municipal
Corporation of Delhi also sought explanation of the School
Inspector concerned.
A team of inspectors led by Director (Education),
Shahdara (North) Zone and Members of the Monitoring Committee
appointed by the Delhi High Court visited the primary school
in Rajeev Nagar and found the sanitary condition of the school
bad and poor disciplinary condition on the ground.

Besides, several teachers were found absent without
intimation.

Following the visit, the MCD placed under suspension
with immediate effect the principal of the school, Dharam Veer
Singh, as he had failed to maintain discipline in school
premises and also to ensure proper cleanliness, the MCD said
in a statement.
While contractual appointment of 14 teachers was
terminated, seven regular teachers were placed under
suspension. It was also found that the School Inspector had
not visited the school for the last four months.

Eleven regular teachers of a primary school at
Mukundpur were also placed under suspension for similar
reasons.

The body has warned that it dereliction of duty will
be viewed seriously and absenteeism in delivery of primary
education will not be tolerated.
