New Delhi: The proposed widening of the key Mehrauli-Gurgaon road, held up for several months, can be a reality now with the MCD giving its nod to transferring to NHAI a piece of its land which was falling on way.

The transfer of the land at Sultanpur, belonging to a MCD primary school there, was approved by the Standing Committee of the civic body at a meeting.

The six-laning of four-lane Mehrauli-Gurgaon road was to be done before the Commonwealth Games last year. However, the National Highway Authority of India observed that in some stretches the right of way was insufficient to accommodate uniform cross section of a six-lane carriageway. The NHAI had then approached the MCD for the land, officials said.

The transfer of 110 sq metres land in one metre width will help the completion of the project. "MCD can afford to give NHAI a portion of the land as the primary school there has a big campus," they said.
