MCD wants Centre to allow sub-division in all colonies

New Delhi: Amid reports that the Centre may
allow sub-division of plots in some unauthorised regularised
areas in the city, the MCD on Wednesday asked the government to amend
the plan and permit it in approved colonies too.

A proposal in this regard was floated by BJP councillor
Sarita Chaudhary and was adopted by MCD Standing Committee.
According to reports, the Centre plans to allow
sub-division in 567 unauthorised regularised colonies, some of
the special areas and urbanised villages.

"As sub-division is not allowed in posh colonies at
present, a lot of illegal construction takes place there. We
need to prevent that and it can only be done by allowing
sub-division across the city in every colony," Chaudhary said.
The MCD will forward the resolution to the Delhi
government for an approval.

A multi-storeyed building that collapsed killing 71
people in Lalita Park in east Delhi last month was an illegal
structure built on a sub-divided plot.
