New Delhi: In a fresh stand-off, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters on Tuesday protested against Delhi Police outside the Anand Parbat police station here over the murder of a teenaged girl in the area.

The protest was held by AAP Youth Wing members who were apparently agitated over police inaction in the case.

"Crime against women is increasing in the city. The victim had earlier complained against the assailants, saying they stalked her. Police did not pay heed to her complaints which led to her murder," an AAP supporter said, as per IANS.

"We want the resignation of ACP Patel Nagar and SHO Anand Parbat police station," he said.

AAP said that the protesters of party's youth wing were lathicharged by the police.

The official Twitter handle of AAP posted the following about the protest:

Nineteen-year-old Meenakshi was brutally stabbed to death allegedly by two brothers living in her neighbourhood for protesting their verbal abuse on July 16.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal later called on the victim's family and announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to her family.

A magisterial inquiry was also ordered in the case by the Delhi government.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi met Kejriwal on Monday and during the meet, the CM asked the top cop to provide details of the number of crimes against women.

Kejriwal also reportedly said that the performance of the police force was not up to the mark.

On July 19 too, AAP had held a protest against Delhi Police saying that it had failed to provide security for women.

They had protested outside Delhi Police headquarters.

Some of the supporters had climbed barricades set up by the police and were then sprayed with water cannons, as per PTI.

Few of the protesters were detained from the spot and later released.
