Minor girl rescued, placement agency dealing in children busted

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Sunday claimed to have smashed a placement agency providing minor children as domestic helps with the arrest of its woman owner and rescue of a girl working in a house.

On a tip-off, investigators yesterday rescued a 10-year-old girl from a house in Noida Sector 50 where she was employed, Vivek Kishore, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), said.

"We received an information that the placement agency located in Paharganj was involved in employing minor children as domestic servants. Further investigations led to the rescue of the girl from Noida," he said.

The girl was employed at Rs 1,000 per month. he said adding police received the tip-off from Child Helpline, an NGO.

The owner of the agency Rekha was arrested while Sarita Taneja, who allegedly employed the girl, is on the run, he said.

"The role of some more people suspected to be involved in this racket is also being probed," Kishore said.
