New Delhi: As Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students continue to stage protests over the missing student Najeeb Ahmed, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday spoke to Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma and asked him to submit a report on the whole episode.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police has announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on any information on the missing JNU student.
JNU continues to remain tense with students protesting outside the administrative block forcing the top brass of the university to stay put in their offices.
Except Akhil Bhartiya Vidya Parishad (ABVP), all student political parties are protesting against the administration.
A student named Najeeb Ahmed had gone missing on the night of October 14 from the university hostel Mahi-Mandvi after a brawl with a few ABVP students. Since then a police complaint has been filed under IPC Section 365 and a Proctorial inquiry has been initiated by the University.
JNUSU president Mohit Pandey said, "We have not illegally confined anybody in JNU administrative building. Electricity and all kind of supplies are here. We have also sent food for people inside."
Apart from Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar, Rectors one and two and Registrar of the university were said to be confined inside the building.
The besieged Vice-Chancellor appealed to the protesting students to let them out of the building and discuss the matter.
"We appeal to the students who have physically confined us to stop this and come for discussion. Let us discuss and resolve," Kumar tweeted from inside the building while students remained gathered outside.
"The blockade is due to the insensitive way of handling the matter of Najeeb Ahmed -- the violence against him by ABVP which led to him missing from the campus for over five days now and the JNU administration trying to shield the culprits while refusing to lodge an FIR," the JNUSU President said.
