New Delhi: In a bid to motivate personnel working on the field, Delhi Police has decided to reward beat officers at police station level every month for exceptional work.
Calling the work of beat officers "crucial", Delhi Police Commissioner BK Gupta today said he has decided to reward best beat officers from each police station every month in order to encourage them.
He was speaking after rewarding 17 Constables and Head Constables, who were working as beat officers, from various districts and units of Delhi Police.
"Till now, this was a quarterly affair and that too at district level. Now we have decided to extend it to every police station. The Deputy Commissioners of Police will select Best Beat Officer from each police station every month.
"This initiative is one of the steps aimed at motivating staff at police station level for better policing," Gupta said.
If the beat system is effective, he said, it will help in detecting as well as preventing crimes. He said group patrolling has also to be strengthened as it provides a "demonstrative effect".
He said police has already started deploying PCR vans near banks between 10 am and two pm to ensure that snatchers cannot attack bank customers.
