Move to bring MCD under Delhi govt politically motivated: BJP

New Delhi: Terming as "politically
motivated" the Centre`s reported move to hand over Municipal
Corporation of Delhi to the state government, opposition BJP
on Monday alleged this was being done to cover up the failure of
the state government to complete Commonwealth Games projects
on time.

The MCD is controlled by BJP while Delhi has a Congress
government.
"The move by the Central government to bring MCD under
the control of Delhi government is nothing but an alibi to
cover up the gross negligence and dismal failure in the
progress and completion of requisite infrastructure for the
Commonwealth Games," BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad
said.

BJP said it would "seriously oppose" any move to kill
the autonomy of the body or of making it a department of Delhi
government.
"Obviously, there is a distinct political angle to it
as MCD is controlled by BJP," Prasad said.

"The important question still remains: Why only MCD?
What about NDMC and DDA as also the police which remain
under the direct control of Government of India?" he said.

BJP also accused the Delhi government of being slow
in completion of flyovers, bridges and stadiums ahead of the
Commonwealth Games.
