New Delhi: A Delhi Court today sent Iftikar
Ahmed Sheikh, a close aide of gangster Munna Bajrangi, to
police custody for nine days.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Kaveri Baweja sent
Iftikar to police custody till November 14 to allow
investigators to unravel the alleged extortion racket being
run by Bajrangi.
The city police submitted before the court that Iftikar
was looking after Bajrangi gang's racket in Mumbai and has
made several extortion phone calls to Delhi-based businessmen.
Iftikar, who had been arrested from Mumbai by Delhi police
Special Cell, was produced before the CMM in her chamber.
Miraj Hussain, another associate of Bajrangi, arrested
from Varanasi, has been sent to police custody for 10 days on
November 4.
Uttar Pradesh gangster Munna Bajrangi, wanted in several
cases including the murder of a BJP MLA, and his close aide
Mahendra Ayare alias Shetty, are already in police custody
which will end on November 9.
The police, while seeking the remand of Bajrangi and
Ayare, had submitted that the duo will be taken to different
places in the country including Mumbai and Varanasi.
Bajrangi, whose real name is Prem Prakash Singh, and Ayare
were arrested yesterday from Mumbai by a joint team of Delhi
Police Special Cell and Uttar Pradesh Police after they
intercepted his call when he was allegedly trying to extort
money from a Delhi-based businessman.
