New Delhi: Taking cognisance of a recent case in which an elderly man was run over by a BMW car in the capital, the National Human Rights Commission has sought a report from Delhi police about the incident.

The Commission issued a notice to the East Delhi DCP recently, directing him to submit a report in the case within four weeks after a complainant accused the police of being negligent.

65-year-old Om Dutt Chauhan was on a morning walk along with his son when a speeding BMW car ran over him near Akshradham temple in east Delhi on April 8.

Relatives and eye-witnesses had alleged that Chauhan was not immediately taken to a hospital by the police and so he succumbed to his injuries.
