Police seek more time to probe plot to kill CWG officials

The Delhi police on Monday sought more time to conclude its probe as to how a knife reached the two Tihar Jail inmates.

New Delhi: The Delhi police on Monday sought
more time to conclude its probe as to how a knife reached the
two Tihar Jail inmates allegedly to kill the arrested former
CWG Organising Committee officials inside the prison.

In a report submitted to Additional Chief Metropolitan
Magistrate Sunil Chaudhary, the inquiry officer of the case
submitted that the probe is still in progress.

"Inquiry to ascertain the source of knife, which was
recovered on the pointing out of undertrials Nishant and Amit
from the central jail number 4, is in progress. Therefore, it
is requested that more time may kindly be given to finalise
the inquiry," police said in its report.

The probe agency is likely to file its fresh status
report on Saturday in accordance with the court`s earlier
direction to apprise it of their progress in the probe every
Saturday.

The police had appointed a Crime Branch inspector to
investigate the matter after the court expressed its
displeasure over a probe report filed by ACP Sumer Singh,
which had failed to ascertain "the source of the knife" found
in the jail.

The court had said the ACP failed to inquire into the
matter properly and directed the city police commissioner
to appoint another officer to do the same.

The police, in their earlier report, had said there
was no evidence to support the claim made by Nishant and Amit
that they were supplied with arms to kill two of the three
former CWG OC officials TS Darbari, M Jayachandran and
Sanjay Mahendroo inside the jail.

The former CWG OC officials are now out on bail.
