Poll panel orders action against fake voters in Delhi

New Delhi: The poll panel Thursday directed all its district election officers here to initiate action against the citizens who have filed wrong information while enlisting themselves as voters.

The decision was taken after a voter from Rajinder Nagar assembly constituency made 12 online applications giving wrong data and pasting the photos of movie stars in all applications.

In a similar case in Bijwasan assembly constituency, 15 voters were served notices for making multiple entries.

Recently, a total of 89,156 multiple entries and 1,20,605 image duplication cases were detected by booth-level officers during a special "IT-enabled application and field verification" process to identify the false electorate.

"It's a complete forgery. This is an offence under Section 31 of Representations of People Act 1950," a senior poll panel official told IANS.

Following this all such applicants will be tracked down and their voter cards will be cancelled including the original one, he said.
