Dikshit said it was decided to simplify the procedure
as government had received representations from various
organisations stating that the common man faces a lot of
difficulty in getting a caste certificate.
Officials said there were complaints that it was
difficult to get the supporting documents attested by a
gazetted officer to apply for a caste certificate.
As per existing norm, in case of applying for a SC or
ST certificate, the applicant has to approach a gazetted
officer for attestation of his supporting documents while the
application can either be attested by an MP, MLA, municipal
councillor or a gazetted officer.
Now MPs and MLAs will also be able to attest the
required supporting documents.
