New Delhi: Getting a caste certificate in
the city will now be hassle-free with Delhi Government on Monday
deciding to simplify the procedure for issuance of the
document.

"We have decided to simplify the procedure for
issuance of caste certificates," Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit
said after a Cabinet meeting.

Officials said no enquiry will be conducted for
issuance of caste certificate to an applicant if a member of
his or her family has already been issued a similar
certificate.

Dikshit said it was decided to simplify the procedure
as government had received representations from various
organisations stating that the common man faces a lot of
difficulty in getting a caste certificate.

Officials said there were complaints that it was
difficult to get the supporting documents attested by a
gazetted officer to apply for a caste certificate.

As per existing norm, in case of applying for a SC or
ST certificate, the applicant has to approach a gazetted
officer for attestation of his supporting documents while the
application can either be attested by an MP, MLA, municipal
councillor or a gazetted officer.

Now MPs and MLAs will also be able to attest the
required supporting documents.
