New Delhi: Delhi Police on Wednesday released the sketch of the killer of Radhika Tanwar, the 22-year-old girl who was shot dead in broad daylight near her college yesterday.

As per the police, there was only one assailant who appears to have been following her movement for long and that the crime may have been committed due to some kind of obsession.

The killer is a youngster of average built, wheatish complexion, around 5.5 feet in height and was wearing a black T-shirt yesterday. But the police is not 100% certain about the description as, shockingly, there are no eyewitnesses.

Briefing the press about the ongoing investigation, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone) HGS Dhaliwal said that the police are conducting through probe and that a number of teams are working closely on the case.

“Assailant knew her movements; like the time she left her home for college and route she took to college. It is almost certain that he observed her keenly,” he said.

With regards to the motive behind the killing, Dhaliwal chose to not air the exact details but he did say that there may be a “personal angle” which may be known to close friends or family members.

“We are in touch with them so that we could get any additional information,” he said, adding that inspite of their grief Radhika’s family has been bold and supportive and is cooperating with the police.

Come forward and help us

The DCP said that Radhika was shot from close range from a .315 bore Country made pistol which sounds like cracker burst.

The assailant is thought to have meticulously planned the crime and shot the foot over bridge to fire at her because the noisy surroundings help in muzzling the sound of the firing, and also because it would be easy for him to escape.

Dhaliwal, however, expressed disappointment that not many who came forward to help the police.

“Unfortunately there were many who witnessed the crime but all of them denied that they saw anything,” he said.

“Something cannot be undone but atleast those who have seen the crime should come forward so that we catch the criminal as soon as possible,” he added.

The DCP also assured that the identity of those who help the police would be kept a secret.

In his observations, which point towards to the insensitiveness of the society and the non-cooperativeness of the citizens, Dhaliwal said, “We do not recommend that citizens intervene during a crime especially when the criminal is armed. But any citizen must atleast take the victim to the hospital… because she (Radhika) kept lying there for minutes before the beat constable and another person took her to the hospital.”

Radhika was taken to the Sadarjung Hospital but was pronounced brought dead.
